Ultra-light 17 g/m² E-glass surface veil – for high-quality composite surfaces with minimal additional weight.
Optiveil™ is a very fine wet-laid E-glass veil for near-surface layers as well as lightweight carrier and stabilising applications. Its uniform fibre distribution promotes a homogeneous surface and reduces visible print-through from coarser reinforcement structures. At only 17 g/m², it is particularly attractive for lightweight GFRP and CFRP components.
Optiveil™ 17 g/m² consists of short, finely and uniformly distributed E-glass fibres. The wet-laid veil has an open structure, absorbs resin uniformly and can be fully integrated into the laminate as a thin intermediate or surface layer.
The key benefit of this 17 g/m² grade is its extremely low material weight. It adds only minimal thickness and mass to the laminate while still providing a significant improvement in surface quality. The texture of coarser fabrics, non-crimp fabrics and UD reinforcements is less likely to print through to the component surface.
In addition to its use as a surface veil, Optiveil™ can also serve as a very lightweight carrier and stabilising layer, for example for resin and adhesive systems or in combination with dry reinforcement materials.

Benefits of Optiveil™ 17 g/m²
- ultra-low areal weight of only 17 g/m²
- fine and exceptionally uniform fibre distribution
- promotes high-quality, homogeneous component surfaces
- reduces print-through from coarser reinforcement structures
- excellent and uniform resin uptake
- suitable as a surface, carrier and stabilising veil
- 127 cm width for large continuous cut pieces
Applications
Optiveil™ is particularly suitable for high-quality composite components where a fine surface finish is required with minimal additional weight. Positioned directly below the component surface, it creates a uniform resin-rich fine layer ahead of the primary structural reinforcement.
Its extremely low mass also makes the veil particularly suitable for lightweight composite structures where additional layers should have as little influence as possible on component weight and thickness.
Typical applications:
- surface layers in GFRP and CFRP laminates
- high-quality visible and painted surfaces
- carrier and stabilising layer for fabrics, non-crimp fabrics and UD materials
- carrier veil for resin and adhesive systems
- model and mould construction
- boat and yacht construction
- automotive components
- industrial composite components
- tank and pipe systems
Suitable Resin Systems
Optiveil™ 17 g/m² is suitable for processing with appropriate epoxy and polyester resin systems. Its open and uniform veil structure promotes rapid, homogeneous wet-out and allows complete integration into the laminate.
When used as a surface veil, only the quantity of resin required for complete wet-out should be applied. This preserves the weight advantage of the ultra-light veil and avoids an unnecessarily resin-rich surface layer.

Benefits of the 127 cm Width
The 127 cm width allows large continuous surface plies and can reduce the number of joints required on larger components. At the same time, the extremely lightweight 17 g/m² veil remains easy to handle and can readily be cut down for smaller applications.
Traitement
As a surface veil
Optiveil™ is positioned directly in the near-surface region of the laminate and fully impregnated with resin. The structural fabrics, non-crimp fabrics or UD layers are then applied according to the required laminate design.
Position smoothly
Lay the thin veil as smoothly and wrinkle-free as possible. Its low areal weight makes it easy to conform to contours and larger surfaces.
Versatile manufacturing processes
According to the manufacturer, Optiveil™ is suitable for a wide range of composite manufacturing processes, including hand lay-up, vacuum infusion, RTM, RIM, compression moulding, filament winding and pultrusion.
Carrier and stabilising veil
In addition to surface enhancement, Optiveil™ can be used as a lightweight carrier for resin and adhesive systems or as a support layer in combination with dry reinforcement materials.
