Fine 30 g/m² E-glass surface veil – for high-quality composite surfaces, more substantial surface layers and versatile carrier and stabilising applications.
Optiveil™ 30 g/m² combines very uniform fibre distribution with greater thickness and strength than the lightweight 17 g/m² grade. The wet-laid E-glass veil promotes a homogeneous, resin-rich surface layer, reduces print-through from coarser reinforcement structures and can also be used as a carrier or stabilising veil. Its 127 cm width is particularly attractive for larger composite components.
Optiveil™ 30 g/m² consists of short, uniformly distributed E-glass fibres and is manufactured using a wet-laid process. Its highly porous veil structure provides good resin uptake and promotes uniform wet-out across the entire surface.
Used as a surface layer, the veil forms a fine, resin-rich intermediate layer between the finished component surface and coarser fabrics, non-crimp fabrics or UD reinforcements. This can reduce visible print-through from the underlying reinforcement structure and help produce a more uniform composite surface.
At 30 g/m² and approximately 0.27 mm thick, this Optiveil™ grade is considerably more substantial than the 17 g/m² version. It therefore provides more material for surface and intermediate layers and is particularly well suited as a carrier for resin and adhesive systems or for stabilising dry reinforcement materials.

Benefits of Optiveil™ 30 g/m²
- fine and uniform E-glass fibre distribution
- promotes homogeneous, high-quality composite surfaces
- reduces print-through from coarser reinforcement structures
- more substantial and stronger than the 17 g/m² grade
- good and uniform resin uptake through the open veil structure
- versatile use as a surface, carrier and stabilising veil
- 127 cm width for large continuous cut pieces
Applications
Optiveil™ 30 g/m² is particularly suitable for composite components where a high-quality surface is required together with a somewhat more substantial near-surface or stabilising layer. Its combination of low areal weight, fine fibre structure and good handling strength provides a wide range of possible applications.
In addition to conventional surface enhancement, the veil can be used as a carrier for resin and adhesive systems or as a lightweight stabilising layer for dry fabrics, non-crimp fabrics and unidirectional reinforcements.
Typical applications:
- surface and intermediate layers in GFRP and CFRP components
- high-quality visible and painted surfaces
- carrier layer for resin and adhesive systems
- stabilisation of dry fabrics, non-crimp fabrics and UD reinforcements
- mould and tool construction
- boat and yacht construction
- automotive components
- technical composite laminates
- corrosion-resistant tanks and piping systems
Suitable Resin Systems
Optiveil™ 30 g/m² is suitable for processing with appropriate epoxy and polyester resin systems. Its highly porous structure promotes rapid and uniform wet-out and allows the veil to be fully integrated into the laminate.
When used as a surface layer, the veil should be fully impregnated without introducing unnecessarily large quantities of resin. This produces a uniform resin-rich fine layer without making the surface unnecessarily thick or heavy.
Which Surface Veil Should I Choose?
| Version | Width | Character | Typical use |
| View Optiveil™ 17 g/m² → | 127 cm | ultra-light and fine | lightweight surface, carrier and stabilising layers with minimal additional weight |
| Optiveil™ 30 g/m² | 127 cm | more substantial and stronger | more pronounced surface layers and versatile carrier/stabilising applications |
| View C-glass surface tissue 30 g/m² → | 100 cm | C-glass surface tissue | surface enhancement and near-surface protective layers |
Benefits of the 127 cm Width
The 127 cm width is particularly advantageous for larger composite components. Large surface and intermediate layers can be produced from continuous cut pieces, reducing the number of joints and overlaps required. At the same time, the lightweight veil can easily be cut down for smaller components and detailed areas.
Traitement
As a surface veil
Optiveil™ is positioned directly in the near-surface region of the laminate and fully impregnated with resin. The structural fabrics, non-crimp fabrics or UD layers are then applied according to the required laminate design.
As a carrier veil
Its uniform and open fibre structure also makes Optiveil™ suitable as a carrier for resin and adhesive systems. Liquid systems can be distributed uniformly across the veil and retained within its fibre structure.
Stabilising dry reinforcements
The veil can be combined with dry fabrics, non-crimp fabrics or UD reinforcements and can support their handling and positioning within more complex laminate lay-ups.
Versatile manufacturing processes
According to the manufacturer, Optiveil™ is suitable for a wide range of composite manufacturing processes, including hand lay-up, vacuum infusion, RTM, RIM, compression moulding, filament winding and pultrusion.
